Deliciously sweet, good for you papaya! Once considered quite exotic, can now be found in markets all over throughout the year. Although there is a slight seasonal peak in early summer and fall, papaya trees produce fruit year round. The fruit, as well as the other parts of the papaya tree, contain papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins. This enzyme is especially concentrated in the fruit when it is unripe. Papain is extracted to make digestive enzyme dietary supplements, etc. But I personally love eating it raw. Papaya is one of my favorite fruits because not only is delicious but it is super good for you, the papain in it helps my stomach feel amazing keeping my belly flat and it is good for the digestive system. This amazing fruit is more than just papain, it contains beta-carotene, Vitamin C, Fiber, Vitamin A, Magnesium Potassium, Copper and Pantothenic Acid (also known as vitamin B5)
When cutting your papaya “do not” throw the skin away, this part is great to make a natural facial for bright glowing skin. Can also be combined with other ingredients like honey and lime to get even more benefits. The enzymes in this amazing fruit slow down the formation of fine lines and wrinkles by combating free radicals, it also has skin-lightening properties and can reduce the visibility of blemishes and acne scars. Together with alpha hydroxy acids, papain acts as a gentle exfoliator that dissolves inactive protein and dead skin cells. Applying papaya topically to skin will soften your skin, leaving it smooth and supple. So there you have it…Do you need more reasons to love papaya?
Have a great weekend everyone!
